In these years, many tactical gear brands turned their eyes on civil or even fashion items, and made their own pack products. These packs are not aiming tactical or outdoor anymore, they are designed for pure daily use. Most of them have following characteristics:

  • Volume of less than 20L and flat body
  • “De-tacticalization” looks with least or with no MOLLE/PALS (some products still keep military/tactical colors)
  • Compartments designed for daily use: laptop envelop, bottle carrier on the sides, and hydration bladder options removed.
  • Simplified suspension system

I think the most known products of this kind is LBT-8005 series, other products like GORUCK and GWA Citadel also have their customers. But today we have an Eagle Industries item at hand: All-Purpose Pack.

(what an odd name…)

There are six color options:

  • Multicam Black
  • Multicam
  • Coyote Brown
  • Ranger Green
  • Multicam Black/Ranger Green
  • Grey/Coyote Brown

Material: 500D Nylon (main body), 4-way Stretch Nylong (bottle carriers), Milspec Mesh (inner mesh pocket).

Size: 10x18x6 inches

Weight: approx. 1.32 lbs.

Since it has no extendibility, I chose Grey/Coyote Brown two tone one (APP-1-5GR-5SCOY). I preferred a Ranger Green/Coyote Brown pack, but there is no such option. The main compartment is clam-like and with zippered opening. The overall size is smaller than I thought.

Front and rear

This pack is completely designed for daily use, the suspension is much simplified than other tactical pack with similar volume.

.75 inch carrying handle on the top
no drain hole on the bottom
bottle carrier on the side
Eagle Industries logo on the pack face. There are six webbing loops on the front for elastic cord
Velcro panel

Two zippered exterior pockets
Inner side: laptop envelop and mesh pocket
Inner side out. The pack is not hydration compatible.
Bottle carrier with Camelbak 750ml bottle.
Compare with Camelbak M.U.L.E.

In general, the All-Purpose Pack is good for your daily use. The only problem is that it has no sternum strap. Even waist strap is not necessary for such a small pack, sternum strap is still an essential feature for any pack for preventing straps from slipping to the sides. Fortunately, I have a spare sternum strap set at hand.

and my favourite pouch for shoulder strap: Helikon NAVTEL Pouch

The All-Purpose Pack is an answer to the question: “What the product looks like, if a tactical gear industry decides to make a pack for purely daily use?”
